Brave New Dystopian World
Stories about the dystopian civilization always have their own charm because of their origins in the form of human endeavours that want to create their utopians and end in nervousness and fear of the authors of stories on the future society itself. In creating an orderly, happy, and prosperous society, humans need to pay a price that is either profitable or not, there is always a paradox and dilemma in the way that humans define how to be a good human being.
Community, identity and stability are the motto of the world where Bernard Marx lives. He is an Alpha or can be said to be the highest caste society and has more responsibility for the order of the world, even so, Bernard is an odd event because it has a physical that does not reflect the highest caste of this new civilization. The world state caste is filled by social classes determined from one’s birth, more precisely manufacturing society, yes, manufacturing because this new civilization was created from hatchery and maintenance factories which have the role of creating Alpha and Beta as superiors of the Delta, Epsilon and Gamma classes as a muscle worker. Starting at the factory, humans will also end up in factories to be “harvested” and remain beneficial to the community until their death.
The conditioning of society also means that propaganda is echoed to a human being from “produced” about how important the order of the world is. Human happiness is controlled by various tricks, one of them is the efficacious hallucination drug named Soma, Soma gives “vacation” to human civilization without side effects. Then the new world order led by Mustafa Mond as the supreme leader of world civilization was created from the thought of how prosperous humans are determined by the placement of classes in society such as Gamma which is the lowest muscle worker who feels easy with his job and uses only strength, while if such work is transferred to the Alpha community they will certainly be offended and use their intelligence to do things like rebellion.
Bernard Marx the dwarf as an anomaly in his world, also wants to prove in the community that the title Alpha class is not wrongly pinned like a rumour that the seeding bottle was accidentally contaminated with alcohol. Long story short, the main character and his friend Lenina the beautiful, and his best friend Helmholtz went to an area outside civilization, where they met Linda and the wild alias John as a society that still understood religion, literature, art, and other things that needed to be sacrificed for the sake of civilization organized. The presence of the wild John into civilization creates controversy and dilemma in this novel later, the wild and civilized world are both no less shocked when met. At the end of the novel, it was conveyed about the reason Mustafa Mond formed his orderly world and ended with a tragic story in one of his characters.
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is a legendary dystopian novel with various awards including seven nominations for the Nobel Prize in literature, and even by the famous metal band, Iron Maiden, with the same title. The writing of the novel itself was overshadowed by world war and industrial revolution so it might also inspire Aldous Huxley to create pessimism and nervousness in seeing the future under the dictatorship in the form of technology.
